I'm a Senior Professor of Practice in Marketing at the University of Houston. In my role as a marketing professor, I have developed and taught many digital marketing courses at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. Throughout my career, I have received several awards for teaching and research, including the best dissertation proposal in business-to-business marketing, the top paper in conference award at the Association of Marketing Theory and Practice Conference, the Presidential Award at St. Edward's University, and the Innovation in Teaching Award at the University of Houston. 

 

As part of my role at the University of Houston, I have helped launch a digital marketing certificate for undergraduate and graduate marketing students. At the graduate level, this involves working with small businesses to help develop their business utilizing SEO, search, and social media marketing. My students receive hands-on experience working with real businesses.

It is through this work with small businesses that I came to realize that most small business owners operate a pay-and-pray approach to marketing. That is, they either pay directly to do the marketing themselves (either time or money), or they pay someone else (a lot more money to free up their time) to do the marketing for them. It is sad how often I see someone paying thousands of dollars a month for a service that is resulting in a negative ROI because of neglect. Seeing this play out year after year has inspired me to strike out on my own and provide an affordable option to small businesses in the Houston area who want to get more out of their marketing.
